Sparks the powder
A frizzen is the L-shaped steel plate on a flintlock firearm that the flint strikes to produce sparks.
When the trigger is pulled, the flint scrapes down the frizzen's hardened face, throwing sparks into the flash pan to ignite the powder charge.
Also called a steel or battery.
