misgendering

Incorrect gender reference

Misgendering is referring to someone using a gender they don't identify with—wrong pronouns, wrong titles, wrong terms.

It can be accidental or deliberate: I kept misgendering her until I got used to the new pronouns.

Deliberate misgendering is often intended as dismissal or insult.

The noun form refers to an instance: another misgendering.
