humiliation

Dignity stripped away

Humiliation is the experience of being made to feel ashamed, foolish, or stripped of dignity—usually publicly.

It differs from embarrassment in intensity and from shame in its external source: someone or something humiliates you.

The humiliation of being fired in front of coworkers stayed with him for years.

To humiliate is to inflict this feeling; humiliating describes what causes it.
