good faith

Genuine, trustworthy intent

Good faith is sincerity of intention—acting honestly and without hidden motives.

In legal contexts, it describes dealings conducted fairly and in accordance with reasonable expectations: The contract was negotiated in good faith.

Someone acting in good faith may still be wrong, but they aren't deceiving or manipulating: I accepted his explanation in good faith.

The opposite is bad faith.
