habit

Hard to break

A habit is a behavior repeated so often it becomes automatic: I'm trying to break my habit of checking my phone first thing in the morning.

The word can suggest something hard to stop, especially with addictive substances: a cocaine habit.

A habit is also the distinctive garment worn by members of religious orders: a nun's habit.

To be in the habit of doing something is to do it regularly.
