allyship

Standing with others

Allyship is active support for a marginalized group by someone outside it.

The term emerged from social justice movements, describing ongoing commitment rather than passive sympathy: True allyship requires listening and learning.

Unlike older words like solidarity, allyship emphasizes the ally's responsibility to defer to those they support rather than speak for them.
