microaggression
Small demeaning remark
A microaggression is a subtle, often unintentional comment or action that conveys prejudice toward a marginalized group.
Unlike overt discrimination, microaggressions are brief, commonplace exchanges—asking an Asian American where are you really from? or telling a Black colleague you're so articulate.
The term emphasizes cumulative impact: individually minor, collectively wearing.
Critics argue the concept pathologizes ordinary social friction.
