neuroma
Benign nerve tumor
A neuroma is a growth or tumor on nerve tissue, typically benign.
The term most often refers to Morton's neuroma, a painful thickening of tissue around a nerve in the ball of the foot, common among runners and people who wear tight shoes.
More generally, neuromas can develop where nerves have been damaged or severed: The surgeon removed a neuroma that had formed at the amputation site.
