sesamoid
Bone within tendon
A sesamoid is a small bone embedded within a tendon, typically found where tendons pass over joints.
The kneecap is the largest sesamoid bone in the human body.
Smaller sesamoids occur in the hands and feet, particularly at the base of the big toe.
As an adjective, sesamoid describes anything resembling a sesame seed in size and shape.
