captions

Text under images

Captions are text accompanying images or video.

A caption under a photograph identifies what's shown or adds context.

In film and television, captions display dialogue and sound descriptions for deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers, or translate foreign languages.

To caption something is to provide such text: She captioned the photo before posting it.
