op-ed
Columnist's personal take
An op-ed is a newspaper or magazine article expressing the opinion of a writer who is not on the publication's editorial staff.
The term comes from "opposite the editorial page," where such pieces traditionally appeared.
Op-eds offer perspectives from outside voices—politicians, academics, activists, or ordinary citizens—on current issues.
She wrote an op-ed arguing for stricter environmental regulations.
The term now extends to similar opinion pieces published online.
