Preparing a meal
Cooking is the practice of preparing food by applying heat—boiling, frying, baking, roasting, grilling.
The term extends to the whole process of meal preparation: I do most of the cooking in our house.
Someone's cooking is their characteristic style or skill: Her cooking reminds me of my grandmother's.
Figuratively, if something is cooking, it's developing or happening: What's cooking?
To cook the books is to falsify financial records.
