Paperbacks are books with flexible paper covers, as opposed to hardcovers with rigid boards.
They're cheaper to produce and sell for less.
A book typically appears first in hardcover, then later in paperback: I'll wait for the paperback.
Mass-market paperbacks are the small, inexpensive editions sold in drugstores and airports; trade paperbacks are larger and printed on better paper.
