jointers
Edge-straightening hand planes
Jointers are woodworking tools that create flat, straight edges on boards, typically before joining them together.
The term covers both the hand plane variety—a long plane that rides over high spots to produce a true edge—and the power tool with a rotating cutterhead over which boards are passed: Run the boards through the jointer before gluing them up.
A jointer who works with stone or masonry fills and finishes joints between blocks or bricks.
