splitters
Things that cleave
Splitters are people or things that divide something into parts.
The term often describes those who make fine distinctions—taxonomists who classify organisms into many separate species are splitters, opposed to lumpers who group broadly.
In woodworking, a splitter is a blade guard that prevents kickback.
In politics or religion, splitters break from the main group over doctrinal differences: The party was weakened by splitters who couldn't accept the compromise.
