spokeshaves

Curved wood planers

A spokeshave is a small hand tool with a blade set between two handles, used to shape and smooth curved wooden surfaces.

The name comes from its original use shaping wheel spokes, but woodworkers use it for any curved work—chair legs, bow staves, paddle handles.

He cleaned up the rough edges with a spokeshave.
