Cleavers is a weedy plant with small hooked bristles on stems and leaves that cling to clothing and animal fur.
The plant seems to cleave to whatever brushes against it.
Also called goosegrass or bedstraw, it sprawls through hedgerows and waste ground: I spent ten minutes picking cleavers off my socks after the walk.
