grappler
One who wrestles
A grappler is someone who grapples—who seizes and struggles at close quarters.
The word appears most often in wrestling and martial arts, where grapplers specialize in holds, locks, and throws rather than strikes: He's a skilled grappler who prefers to take fights to the ground.
By extension, anyone wrestling with a difficult problem might be called a grappler.
