sumo
Heavyweight ring sport
Sumo is a traditional Japanese form of wrestling in which two large competitors attempt to force each other out of a circular ring or to touch the ground with any body part other than the feet.
The wrestlers, called rikishi, are typically massive—weight is an advantage, and there are no weight classes.
We watched sumo on television during our trip to Tokyo.
The word also functions as an adjective suggesting exceptional size or heft: a sumo-sized portion.
