transitions
Shifts between stages
Transitions are changes or movements from one state, condition, or place to another.
The word applies across domains: a political transition moves power from one leader to another, a gender transition involves changing one's outward presentation and often body, and a musical transition bridges two sections of a piece.
In writing and speech, transitions are words or phrases that connect ideas and help readers follow the flow of thought.
The transition from college to working life can be jarring.
