gallbladder

Liver's small neighbor

A gallbladder is a small organ beneath the liver that stores bile for digesting fats.

When you eat, it releases bile into the small intestine.

Gallstones can form there, sometimes requiring surgical removal of the organ—a common procedure since people can live without a gallbladder.

Also spelled gall bladder.
