guts

Insides or bravery

Guts are the intestines and other internal organs of the body, especially the stomach and bowels: I felt it in my guts.

The word extends to the inner workings of anything: the guts of a computer.

Figuratively, guts means courage or determination: It takes guts to stand up to a bully.

To gut something is to remove its insides or strip it bare: gut a fish, fire gutted the building.

To hate someone's guts is to despise them utterly.
