intestines
Digestive tract coils
The intestines are the long, coiled tube in the abdomen where digestion is completed and nutrients absorbed.
The small intestine handles most nutrient absorption; the large intestine (colon) absorbs water and forms waste.
Intestinal fortitude is a polite way of saying guts—courage or resolve: She had the intestinal fortitude to finish the race.
