erection

Raising a structure

An erection is the state of being erect—stiff, upright, or raised.

Most commonly, the word refers to the engorgement of the penis with blood, causing it to become rigid: He woke up with an erection.

The word also applies to the act of constructing something: the erection of a monument, the erection of trade barriers.

A structure itself may be called an erection, though this use sounds dated.
