medial
Toward the midline
Medial means situated in the middle.
In anatomy, it describes positions toward the body's midline—the medial side of your knee faces the other knee.
In linguistics, a medial sound or letter occurs in the middle of a word, neither initial nor final.
The term appears in technical contexts: medial meniscus, medial consonant.
