torsion
Spiral mechanical strain
Torsion is the twisting of an object by forces applied at opposite ends in opposite directions.
In physics and engineering, it describes the stress and strain produced by such twisting: The cable failed under torsion.
In medicine, torsion refers to the abnormal twisting of a body part, particularly dangerous when it cuts off blood supply: testicular torsion, ovarian torsion.
