ventral
Toward the underside
Ventral refers to the front or belly side of an animal or organ, opposed to dorsal (back).
In humans standing upright, ventral means toward the front of the body: the ventral surface of the hand is the palm.
In fish and four-legged animals, ventral means the underside.
The term appears mainly in anatomy and biology.
