fireman
Ladder truck responder
A fireman is a person who fights fires as an occupation—a member of a fire department who responds to emergencies, operates equipment, and rescues people from burning buildings.
The term also applies to someone who tends a furnace or boiler, especially on steam locomotives.
Firefighter is now preferred as a gender-neutral alternative, though fireman remains common in informal speech: The firemen arrived within minutes.
