lifesaving

Preventing someone's death

Lifesaving refers to the rescue of people from drowning or other life-threatening situations, or to techniques and equipment used for this purpose: lifesaving training, lifesaving equipment.

As an adjective, it describes anything that preserves life: lifesaving surgery, a lifesaving donation.

The word often appears hyperbolically: That coffee was lifesaving.
