survivor
One who endured
A survivor is someone who lives through a dangerous or life-threatening event—a plane crash, a disease, a war.
The term extends to those who outlive others: She was the sole survivor of her generation.
Survivor also describes people who have endured trauma, especially sexual assault or abuse, where it emphasizes resilience over victimhood: a survivor of childhood abuse.
More loosely, survivor characterizes anyone who perseveres through hardship: She's a survivor—she'll figure it out.
