engine driver
Runs the train
An engine driver is the person who operates a railway locomotive—the British equivalent of American "engineer" in railroad contexts.
The term reflects older usage when steam engines required skilled handling: The engine driver sounded the whistle as we approached the crossing.
Still current in British English and former Commonwealth nations.
