sigma
Standard deviation symbol
Sigma is the eighteenth letter of the Greek alphabet (Σ, σ), used in mathematics and statistics to represent summation or standard deviation.
In internet slang, sigma describes a man who supposedly succeeds outside traditional social hierarchies—a lone wolf who doesn't need validation: sigma male, sigma grindset.
The term emerged from online masculinity discourse and is often used ironically. (Capitalized Sigma appears in fraternity and sorority names.)
