Brackets are punctuation marks that come in pairs to enclose words or figures.
Square brackets [ ] set off editorial insertions or clarifications within quoted material.
Round brackets, usually called parentheses, enclose supplementary information.
Curly brackets appear mainly in mathematics and programming.
Angle brackets < > mark HTML tags.
In British usage, bracket alone often means parenthesis.
Beyond punctuation, a bracket is a support projecting from a wall, or a category grouping similar items: tax bracket, age bracket.
In sports tournaments, a bracket diagrams the matchups leading to a final.
