dowsing rods
Forked divination sticks
Dowsing rods are Y-shaped or L-shaped instruments held while walking over ground, supposedly to locate underground water, minerals, or buried objects.
The rods allegedly move or cross when passing over the target.
Despite centuries of use and persistent belief, scientific testing has found dowsing no more effective than chance.
Also called divining rods.
