spectrometer
Wavelength measuring device
A spectrometer is an instrument that measures properties of light or other radiation across a spectrum.
Different types analyze different phenomena: mass spectrometers measure the mass of particles, optical spectrometers measure light wavelengths.
Scientists use spectrometers to identify chemical compositions, study stellar atmospheres, and detect pollutants: The spectrometer revealed traces of arsenic in the sample.
