ayurveda
Ancient Indian healing
Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine originating in India, emphasizing balance among body, mind, and spirit through diet, herbal remedies, yoga, and lifestyle practices.
The term comes from Sanskrit words meaning "knowledge of life." In Western contexts, ayurveda appears in discussions of alternative medicine and wellness: She consulted an ayurveda practitioner about her digestive issues.
The lowercase form is less common than the capitalized version. (Capitalized Ayurveda is the standard form.)
