divining rod
Forked stick tool
A divining rod is a forked stick or Y-shaped device held by someone who claims it can locate underground water, minerals, or buried objects.
The rod supposedly dips or twitches when passed over the hidden target.
Also called a dowsing rod.
The practice has no scientific basis but persists in folk tradition: The well-digger walked the property with a divining rod.
