depressurization

Cabin air escaping

Depressurization is the loss or reduction of pressure in an enclosed space.

The term appears most often in aviation, where cabin depressurization at high altitude is dangerous: The plane made an emergency descent after rapid depressurization.

Spacecraft, diving chambers, and industrial systems can also depressurize.

The verb is depressurize.
