barotrauma
Diving-related tissue damage
Barotrauma is physical injury caused by pressure differences between the body and the surrounding environment.
Divers experience it when ascending too quickly, damaging ears, sinuses, or lungs.
Patients on mechanical ventilators can suffer barotrauma to the lungs from excessive air pressure.
The diver's ear pain was diagnosed as barotrauma.
