oxygen saturation
Hemoglobin carrying capacity
Oxygen saturation is the percentage of hemoglobin in the blood that is carrying oxygen.
Medical professionals measure it to assess respiratory function: Her oxygen saturation dropped to 88 percent.
Normal levels run between 95 and 100 percent.
The measurement is often abbreviated as O2 sat or SpO2 when taken with a pulse oximeter—the clip device placed on a fingertip.
