emergency descent
Urgent altitude drop
An emergency descent is a rapid loss of altitude by an aircraft, typically executed when cabin pressure fails or fire breaks out at cruising altitude.
Pilots dive to breathable air below 10,000 feet as quickly as safely possible: The cabin filled with oxygen masks as the plane began its emergency descent.
Passengers experience a steep drop and engine noise reduction as thrust is cut to increase descent rate.
