space station
Crewed orbital laboratory
A space station is a large artificial structure in orbit around Earth, designed for humans to live and work in space for extended periods.
Unlike spacecraft meant for travel, space stations remain in fixed orbit as permanent or semi-permanent platforms for research, observation, and experimentation: The astronauts spent six months aboard the space station.
