arbitration

Private dispute settlement

Arbitration is a method of resolving disputes outside the courts, where parties agree to let a neutral third party decide the outcome.

Unlike mediation, which seeks compromise, arbitration produces a binding decision: The contract required arbitration of any disputes.

It's common in labor relations, commercial contracts, and consumer agreements—often appearing in fine print that waives the right to sue: forced arbitration clauses.
