forecourt
Area before entrance
A forecourt is an open area in front of a building, especially one serving as an entrance or gathering space: the forecourt of a palace, the hotel forecourt.
In British usage, a forecourt is also the paved area of a petrol station where pumps are located.
In tennis and similar sports, the forecourt is the area nearest the net.
