condominium

Purchased living space

A condominium is a building divided into individually owned units, or one such unit itself: They bought a condominium downtown.

Owners hold title to their units while sharing ownership of common areas—hallways, pools, grounds.

Often shortened to condo.

The term originally meant joint sovereignty over a territory by multiple nations, a sense that survives in legal and diplomatic contexts.
