chest press

Lying weight push

A chest press is a strength-training exercise that works the pectoral muscles by pushing weight away from the chest.

The movement can be performed lying on a bench with a barbell or dumbbells, or seated at a machine: I added twenty pounds to my chest press this month.

The term also names the equipment itself: The gym just got a new chest press.
