serratus

Ribcage-hugging muscle group

Serratus refers to any of several muscles with serrated or saw-toothed edges, most commonly the serratus anterior, which wraps around the ribcage from the shoulder blade.

This muscle, visible in lean or muscular individuals as finger-like projections along the side of the chest, helps rotate the scapula and is essential for pushing movements and raising the arm overhead.

Boxers develop prominent serratus muscles from all that punching.
