deltoids

Triangular shoulder muscles

The deltoids are the thick triangular muscles capping each shoulder, responsible for raising and rotating the arm.

Named for their resemblance to the Greek letter delta (Δ), they're a focus of upper-body training: His deltoids were massive from years of overhead pressing.

Often shortened to delts: shoulder exercises that target the delts.
