angiosperms
Plants with blossoms
Angiosperms are flowering plants—the vast majority of plant species, from grasses to oak trees to roses.
The term distinguishes them from gymnosperms (conifers, cycads), which produce seeds without flowers.
Angiosperms enclose their seeds in fruit, which aids dispersal: Most of what we eat comes from angiosperms.
The singular angiosperm is less common than the collective plural.
