lily

Bulb with trumpets

A lily is a flowering plant with large, showy blooms, typically trumpet-shaped and often fragrant.

Lilies are associated with purity and are common in religious imagery, weddings, and funerals: Easter lilies, tiger lilies, lily of the valley.

To gild the lily is to add unnecessary ornamentation to something already beautiful.

Lily-white means pure white, or figuratively, beyond reproach—sometimes used sarcastically. (Capitalized Lily is a given name.)
